Quality Assurance & Failure Analysis Engineer

About the role

The Quality Assurance & Failure Analysis Engineer ensures product quality across the full lifecycle, from release approval to resolution of failures and customer complaints. Working in Durban, the role provides single‑point ownership for release quality and for handling failures, complaints and returns, collaborating with engineering, project management, manufacturing and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the quality authority to approve or block product releases (hardware, firmware, software, mechanical) based on objective test evidence.
• Perform independent testing where feasible and validate test evidence when direct testing is not possible.
• Own TestRail as the system of record for release‑relevant testing, defining and maintaining smoke and regression test cases.
• Ensure developers conduct unit testing and support adoption of test automation.
• Define and evolve QA procedures and artefacts for the Quality Management System, including release approval records centred on Design Verification Test documentation.
• Produce and maintain release approval records capturing release criteria, pass/fail conditions, definition of done, known issues and accepted risks.
• Define and monitor quality metrics (escaped bugs, bugs in production, bug age) and provide visibility through dashboards or reports.
• Contribute input to workflow and process improvements with engineering and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Experience in quality assurance and failure analysis across hardware, firmware and software products.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross‑functional teams including engineering, manufacturing and customers.
