Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

We are recruiting on behalf of a well‑established engineering and systems integration firm in Pretoria for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer. The role covers the full lifecycle of electrical designs for industrial and mining projects, from scoping and tendering through detailed design, client liaison and handover to manufacturing and software engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct and coordinate professional electrical designs to meet client‑specific requirements.
• Prepare scopes of work, specifications, bills of quantities and tender documents.
• Compile detailed data packs for manufacturing and software engineering phases.
• Design MCCs in accordance with IEC 61439, including heat‑rise calculations, equipment selection and layout.
• Develop lighting, small‑power, substation, cable‑racking and cable‑sizing designs.
• Size transformers and select appropriate equipment.
• Liaise directly with clients on design specifications and requirements.
• Continuously improve designs for optimal, cost‑effective implementation.
• Mentor and coach CAD operators and junior engineers.

Required profile

• Degree, Technical Diploma or NQF equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration advantageous but not required.
• Extensive operational and design experience in industrial plant and mining projects.
• Strong knowledge of international electrical and instrumentation specifications, SANS standards, the MHS Act and the OHS Act.
• Experience with PLC and SCADA systems.
