Survey Assistant – Open Pit Operations

About the role

The Survey Assistant supports the Surveyor Technician in delivering accurate topographic data for open‑pit mining activities at Valterra Platinum’s Mokopane site. You will work on‑site, assisting with the installation of grade boxes, setting up survey equipment, and contributing to safe and efficient mining operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with installation of profiles (grade boxes) on level and inclined planes to guide construction and excavation.
• Set up and operate a theodolite on coordinated and elevated survey beacons.
• Conduct tachometric location using electronic theodolite and Global Positioning System (GPS).
• Identify locations of mining floor terrain, stockpiles, dumps, roads, and trenches.
• Provide measurements to support CAD drawings and extract information from CAD plans.
• Assist in conducting risk assessments and promote safety initiatives.
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain housekeeping standards.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, offering technical assistance when needed.

Required profile

• Matriculation with Mathematics and Science.
• Basic surveying knowledge is advantageous.
• At least 1 year of experience in an open‑pit mining environment.

Required skills

• Theodolite operation (including electronic theodolite).
• GPS (Global Positioning System) usage for location data.
• Assistance with CAD drawing measurements.
