About the role
REGENT Business School is seeking a creative Industrial Designer to join iLeadLAB, its academic makerspace in Durban. You will work hands‑on with students, turning ideas into tangible products through design thinking, prototyping and digital fabrication.
Key responsibilities
- Lead product design and prototyping projects within the makerspace.
- Collaborate with students and faculty to apply design thinking methodologies.
- Operate and maintain digital fabrication equipment such as laser cutters and 3D printers.
- Develop 3D models and technical drawings for prototype development.
- Support workshops and training sessions on design tools and processes.
Required profile
- Passion for design, technology and education.
- Experience working in a makerspace or similar creative environment.
- Ability to translate concepts into functional prototypes.
- Strong communication skills for mentoring students.
Required skills
- Proficiency with CAD software.
- Experience with 3D modelling software.
- Knowledge of laser cutting and 3D printing technologies.
- Familiarity with digital fabrication tools.
