About the role
The Mako Product Specialist will provide on‑site clinical and technical support for joint replacement procedures across South Africa. Reporting to the Mako Team Leader, you will work closely with surgeons and theatre teams to ensure safe, accurate use of both manual and robotic‑assisted (MAKO) technologies while travelling up to 75% of the time.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver on‑site clinical and technical assistance for robotic‑assisted (MAKO, Q‑Guidance) and manual joint replacement cases.
- Guide surgeons and theatre staff during procedures, ensuring consistent case coverage across accounts.
- Prepare and analyse pre‑operative CT scans to support surgical planning, implant selection and positioning.
- Operate, troubleshoot and evaluate MAKO robotic technology and instrumentation.
- Provide training and education to surgeons, theatre teams and hospital staff through workshops and hands‑on support.
- Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to communicate clinical value, drive product adoption and identify growth opportunities.
- Manage inventory and assets, ensuring accurate tracking, compliance and quality documentation.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, reporting and stakeholder collaboration.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., biomedical, life sciences, physiotherapy, radiology).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in clinical support, operating theatre, radiography, surgical navigation or medical devices.
- Strong technical aptitude with ability to learn advanced technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform in high‑pressure surgical environments.
- Willingness to travel extensively (up to 75%).
- Fluency in English and a valid driver’s licence.
