Feedlot Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Feedlot Manager to take full responsibility for the performance, health and operational efficiency of our feedlot in Pretoria. The role combines veterinary expertise with strong leadership to drive productivity, ensure the highest animal welfare standards and deliver profitable results.

Key responsibilities

• Lead herd health management, diagnose and treat conditions, and implement preventative welfare programs.
• Oversee daily feedlot operations including feeding regimes, cattle movement, infrastructure maintenance and feed quality control.
• Conduct veterinary assessments, maintain accurate health records and coordinate with external veterinarians.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, biosecurity and safety requirements.
• Manage, train and develop the feedlot team, fostering a culture of accountability.
• Control budgets, monitor KPIs, drive cost‑saving initiatives and improve profitability.
• Prepare operational reports, maintain records and liaise with suppliers and industry stakeholders.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives and adopt industry best practices.

Required profile

• Veterinary degree (BVSc, DVM or equivalent) – strongly preferred.
• 5–8 years of experience in feedlot management or large‑scale livestock operations.
• Strong knowledge of cattle health, nutrition and feedlot systems.
• Proven leadership experience managing teams and large‑scale operations.
• Financial acumen with ability to manage budgets and drive profitability.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
• High attention to detail for compliance and record‑keeping.
