Locum Medical Officer – Clinical Trials

About the role

The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is seeking a locum Medical Officer to conduct medical examinations for participants enrolled in a clinical trial. The role is based at the institute’s site in the Lejweleputswa District and focuses on ensuring participant safety and protocol compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform clinical assessments and study visits according to trial protocols.
• Review medical histories, concomitant medications, and laboratory results.
• Identify, manage, and escalate any clinical abnormalities or safety concerns.
• Execute protocol‑required procedures and maintain up‑to‑date GCP training.
• Assess, document, and report adverse events (AEs/SAEs) within required timelines.
• Maintain accurate source documentation and verify data entered into CRFs/EDC systems.
• Collaborate with investigators, study staff, and sponsors to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Required profile

• MBBCh degree or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years relevant clinical experience.
• Certification in ICH‑GCP preferred.
• Current BLS and ACLS or Emergency Care certification.
• Experience with HIV, STI, TB, women’s health, or infectious disease research is desirable.
• Familiarity with SAHPRA, sponsor, and ICH‑GCP regulatory requirements.
