Legal Counsel – EPC & O&M (Renewable Energy)

About the role

Scatec is seeking a Legal Counsel specialized in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) to join its global team in Cape Town, South Africa. The role provides legal support for renewable energy projects, covering solar, wind, hydro and P2X initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate EPC/subcontracts, O&M agreements, and equipment supply contracts.
• Prepare direct agreements and performance securities related to EPC and O&M contracts.
• Review financing loan documentation for EPC and O&M terms.
• Lead compliance on forced‑labour issues within the supply chain and embed compliance language in contracts.
• Manage supplier IDDs and ensure TEAR‑report concerns are addressed.
• Represent the company in arbitrations concerning EPC, equipment supply and O&M contracts.
• Coordinate with regional legal teams on financing CPs and support the VP Legal – O&M and Contracts & Claims Manager on contractual notices.
• Assist Supply Chain in drafting and managing claims against equipment suppliers.
• Maintain relationships with external counsel, partners, suppliers, subcontractors and lenders.
• Own and maintain all legal templates for EPC, equipment supply and O&M agreements.

Required profile

• Law degree with a focus on common law.
• 3‑5 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
• Proven commercial drafting and contract review experience.
• Specific experience with EPC and O&M contracts in the renewable‑energy sector.
