Lecturer – Mathematics Education

About the role

The Faculty of Education at the University of Pretoria seeks a dedicated Lecturer in Mathematics Education to join its Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology. The successful candidate will contribute to both teaching and research, supporting the development of future teachers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver curriculum and modules for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Conduct independent research, publish findings, and supervise postgraduate students.
• Design and coordinate courses for pre‑service and in‑service teachers, including distance‑learning delivery.
• Mentor students during practice teaching and work‑integrated learning placements.
• Utilise the university’s learning management system to create and present e‑learning content.
• Participate in academic administration and departmental committees.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mathematics Education.
• Minimum of one year of mathematics teaching experience.
• Evidence of research activity and publications.
• Experience in community projects and academic administration.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Knowledge of mathematics education content areas and teaching methodologies.
• Familiarity with the South African education system.
• Experience facilitating learning in an e‑learning environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
