Superintendent Engineering

About the role

The Superintendent Engineering leads engineering audits, quality assurance and continuous improvement for mining equipment and maintenance processes. This senior position ensures compliance with engineering standards, regulatory requirements and company policies while driving operational efficiency on site.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site and equipment audits to verify workmanship, quality and compliance with engineering policies and standards.
• Evaluate maintenance applications against legal, statutory and industry regulations, and direct remediation of any deviations.
• Assess maintenance functions for effectiveness, recommend process improvements and monitor key risk controls.
• Maintain a tracking database for audit findings, follow‑up actions and remedial progress.
• Provide objective performance assessments against best practice and ensure equipment is fit for purpose.
• Support asset‑management strategies using KPIs and facilitate cross‑functional teams to reduce reactive maintenance.
• Assist in establishing programs to improve maintenance quality, minimize unplanned downtime and enforce strict adherence to procedures.
• Offer technical guidance to other functional groups and act as subject‑matter expert during regulatory inspections.

Required profile

• National N2 Certificate or higher.
• Engineering Supervisor Certificate of Competence.
• Valid Artisan Trade Certificate (Section 13 or 26D) with results statement.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering supervisory capacity.
• Medically fit for the specific business area and clear security screening record.
• Valid driver’s licence (if applicable).
• Advantageous: NQF Level 5 Diploma in Engineering.
