Staff Accountant – Construction (Remote)

About the role

AbroadWorks is seeking a remote Staff Accountant with a construction focus to join its global finance team. You will work Monday‑Friday on EST hours, reviewing bookkeeping, ensuring tax compliance, and handling complex accounting tasks for construction clients.

Key responsibilities

• Review bookkeeping files for accuracy and completeness.
• Oversee monthly close processes and perform reconciliations.
• Prepare and file sales, use, liquor, occupancy and other state/local taxes.
• Support payroll tax reviews and year‑end reconciliations.
• Prepare adjusting journal entries and manage client AR/AP as needed.
• Assist with 1099 preparation and year‑end client deliverables.
• Maintain internal workflow updates, notes, and documentation.
• Provide basic business return assistance with training.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction accounting.
• Strong understanding of core accounting principles and multi‑state sales/use tax.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in fast‑moving, deadline‑sensitive environments.
• Excellent English communication skills and a proactive attitude.
• Own a reliable desktop or laptop and stable internet connection.

Required skills

• QuickBooks Online proficiency.
