Senior Inbound Travel Consultant

About the role

Planet Africa Tours is seeking a Senior Inbound Travel Consultant to lead the design and management of bespoke itineraries for Japanese travelers visiting Southern and East Africa. The role combines deep local knowledge with an understanding of Japanese customer expectations to deliver exceptional travel experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, design and prepare detailed travel itineraries, offering advice to enhance guest experiences.
• Manage the full booking cycle from quotation through invoicing and travel documentation.
• Source alternatives and resolve availability challenges, ensuring bookings are secured.
• Convert quotes into confirmed sales, maximizing margins where possible.
• Conduct availability checks, book accommodation and services, and reconfirm all reservations.
• Prepare documentation for tour guides, leaders, and group operations (rooming lists, invoices, etc.).
• Perform quality control on all bookings and resolve account queries within set deadlines.
• Provide professional, solution‑focused communication with customers.
• Mentor and train junior team members as needed.

Required profile

• Grade 12 education; tertiary qualification in Travel and Tourism preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of inbound reservations experience, preferably at a senior level.
• Proven ability to design and operate bespoke itineraries for both groups and individual travelers.
• Experience with the Japanese market is highly beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of travel products, destinations and logistics in Southern and East Africa.
• Professional, calm, solutions‑driven attitude with the ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency with UDMS reservation system.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• High level of organization, attention to detail and problem‑solving.
