Registered Nurse – Palliative & Hospice Care

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse to join our palliative and hospice care team at Greendale House. The role involves delivering holistic nursing care that addresses the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, check, and control all medications, ensuring compliance with drug control policies.
• Manage ward stock medication and scheduled drugs, including ordering and inventory control.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records for drugs, procedures, orders, and patient progress.
• Carry out doctors' orders and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team during morning rounds.
• Supervise and support staff to uphold high standards of patient care.
• Provide counselling to patients, families, and staff when a professional counsellor is unavailable.

Required profile

• Formal nursing qualification with registration on the South African Nursing Council.
• Current professional indemnity cover.
• Minimum five years of nursing experience, preferably in palliative or hospice services.

Required skills

• Medication management and stock control.
• Accurate record‑keeping and documentation.
• Ability to supervise and mentor multidisciplinary staff.
• Basic counselling skills for patients and families.
