Qualified Electrician / Technician

About the role

Our client, a control‑gear and electronic control card manufacturer based in Johannesburg, is seeking a Qualified Electrician / Technician to lead a workshop team and handle breakdowns. The role combines hands‑on electrical work with supervisory responsibilities in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of six workshop staff, ensuring efficient day‑to‑day operations.
• Perform panel building, wiring, and component installation according to electrical diagrams.
• Produce and update electrical diagrams and redlines using AutoCAD.
• Generate Bills of Materials and manage inventory for workshop projects.
• Conduct factory acceptance tests, commission equipment, and produce test reports.
• Respond to call‑outs and provide on‑site fault diagnosis and repairs.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience as an electrician or technician in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• No criminal record or ITC listings.
• Own reliable transport and a valid CODE 08 driver’s licence.
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans (read, speak, write) and well‑presented.
• Computer literate with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Required skills

• Panel building and reading electrical diagrams.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (electrical) and familiarity with E‑PLAN.
• Strong fault‑finding and troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience with electronic components.
• Basic PLC programming knowledge (advantageous).
• Microsoft Office suite.
