Project Development Manager - Cape Town

About the role

We are looking for a Project Development Manager to lead the transacting and closing phase of renewable energy projects in Cape Town. The role oversees all project disciplines from finance to construction readiness, ensuring timely financial close and compliance with HSE standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead internal project teams covering finance, engineering, procurement, permitting, interconnection, contract management, HSE and insurance.
• Manage external advisors such as financial advisors, legal counsel, owner engineers and technical consultants.
• Optimize financial models and drive the project to financial close on schedule and within budget.
• Implement project controls including cost control, contract management and scheduling.
• Communicate progress and mitigation plans to stakeholders including off‑takers, partners, lenders and Eskom.
• Identify risks early, develop preventive actions and maintain a “no surprises” execution approach.
• Oversee HSE compliance, reporting and risk reduction strategies.
• Prepare bid documentation and support strategic goals of TotalEnergies Renewables Southern Africa.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing multi‑disciplinary project teams in the renewable energy sector.
• Strong background in project finance, contract negotiation and permitting processes.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve financial close and manage large‑scale construction readiness activities.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience liaising with lenders, off‑takers and grid operators.
• Solid understanding of HSE standards and risk mitigation.
