Professor of Human-Technology Interaction

About the role

Nelson Mandela University seeks a senior academic leader to drive research, teaching and strategic initiatives in Human‑Technology Interaction and digital innovation. The role sits within the Office of the Vice‑Chancellor and leads the Virtual Academy.

Key responsibilities

• Teach, facilitate learning and supervise graduate students in human‑technology interaction and digital innovation.
• Lead the Virtual Academy, promoting human‑centred digital innovation and ethical technology use.
• Develop and deliver formal and short learning programmes across the university.
• Conduct and publish high‑impact research, securing funding and fostering knowledge transfer.
• Provide strategic leadership, change management and financial oversight for academy initiatives.

Required profile

• Doctorate in human‑technology interaction, technology‑enhanced education, computer science or a related field.
• 3‑7 years of relevant academic experience with a track record comparable to a full or associate professor.
• Demonstrated success in supervising Master’s and doctoral candidates.
• Strong record of publications in accredited national and international journals or conferences.

• Expert knowledge of human‑technology interaction and digital transformation in higher education.
• Advanced experience with digital technologies applied in academic contexts.
• Strategic leadership, project management and change management capabilities.
• Financial management and fund‑raising experience.
