Production Engineer – Fixed Term Contract

About the role

The Production Engineer will support the Isando Rubber Plant by implementing strategies that improve safety, productivity, quality and cost. This fixed‑term position works onsite and collaborates closely with health & safety, quality and engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Demonstrate 100% commitment to zero‑harm safety behaviours and maintain safe systems and processes.
• Ensure the machine shop complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and ISO 9001:2008 quality standards.
• Align daily shop‑floor activity with MES transactions and SAP PP/MM postings, monitoring and correcting system exceptions.
• Validate and optimise routing, BOMs, work centres and production versions while guaranteeing full digital traceability of batches, heat numbers and process parameters.
• Lead root‑cause investigations for data inaccuracies and support system upgrades, enhancements and integrations.
• Apply Lean, Six Sigma and industrial‑engineering tools (VSM, time studies, line balancing, SMED, SPC) to increase throughput and reduce waste.
• Conduct cycle‑time analysis, capacity studies and bottleneck elimination, and develop/maintain standard work, SOPs and work instructions.
• Identify loss areas and drive continuous‑improvement projects from concept through verification of savings.

Required profile

• Experience in production engineering within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of safety legislation, ISO 9001 quality systems and occupational health standards.
• Proficiency with MES and SAP PP/MM modules and ability to manage digital traceability.
• Demonstrated ability to lead continuous‑improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
