Patient Safety Manager

About the role

The Patient Safety Manager will work across the hospital to improve and sustain patient safety behaviours, outcomes and culture. This role involves identifying, reporting and analysing safety events and turning findings into actionable improvement projects.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, report and investigate patient safety events using systems‑analysis methodology.
• Lead the hospital’s patient safety culture through Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and risk‑mitigation awareness.
• Assess training needs and develop programmes to embed a safety and QI mindset.
• Manage clinical audits, accreditations and ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and medico‑legal requirements.
• Provide interim support for Infection Prevention and Control when the specialist is unavailable.

Required profile

• Professional Nurse qualification (essential).
• Risk or Patient Safety Management qualification (desired).
• Minimum 3 years of professional nursing experience in a hospital.
• At least 1 year as an IPC link nurse.

Required skills

• Proficiency with safety event management systems.
• Data analysis and interpretation for QI purposes.
• Systems analysis and use of driver diagrams.
• Audit management and gap‑closure techniques.
• Competent use of MS Office suite.
