Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

A leading South African defence and manufacturing organisation is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering and product development team. The role involves taking products from concept through to final manufacturing drawings and production implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical products and components from concept to production.
• Generate 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Perform simulations, stress analysis, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) calculations.
• Support prototype development and testing.
• Liaise with production and manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility.
• Conduct engineering calculations and design validations.
• Assist with continuous product improvement and optimisation.
• Ensure compliance with engineering and quality standards.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–6 years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
• Strong experience in the full product design lifecycle.
• Hands‑on, technically strong and detail‑oriented.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
• Passion for innovation, engineering and product development.
