Instructor III – Underground Blasting Operations

About the role

The Instructor III is responsible for ensuring optimal service delivery to clients by training and supporting employees in underground blasting operations. The role focuses on quality assurance, technical support, and safe handling of explosives and emulsion equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide quality‑assured products and equipment, including testing and quality assurance of explosives.
• Transfer product from surface silos to transfer cassettes and operate BME emulsion charging units.
• Train mine personnel on emulsion technology, pump operation, blast‑face loading, and safe transport of emulsion.
• Lead a team of BME personnel in technical support of underground blasting activities.
• Audit, report, and support standards of tasks and operations, managing quality control in underground storage areas.
• Monitor daily charging operations, conduct regular inspections of sites, vehicles and equipment, and ensure compliance with SHERQ standards.
• Oversee maintenance, inspections and production schedules for equipment and vehicles.
• Benchmark daily blasting activities and promote a culture of cleanliness and orderliness.
• Repair and maintain emulsion equipment and charging units, and ensure proper timing and charging of blast holes according to design.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with Mathematics.
• Advantageous: Competency A & B, Blasting Assistant Competency Code 10, valid driver’s licence.
• Minimum 3 years experience in underground explosives mining environment.
• At least 2 years experience in mechanical, hydraulic and electrical maintenance.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Mechanical maintenance of mining equipment.
• Hydraulic maintenance expertise.
• Electrical maintenance expertise.
• Operational knowledge of underground blasting and emulsion charging units.
