Independent Non-Executive Director (Board)

About the role

The Rand Water Foundation is seeking four independent non‑executive directors to join its board for a four‑year term (01 June 2026 – 31 May 2030). The role provides strategic oversight of the Foundation’s community development and corporate social investment activities, ensuring alignment with Rand Water’s socio‑economic objectives and national development priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent oversight of governance, statutory compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor implementation of the Foundation’s strategy, business model and policies.
• Contribute technical and governance expertise to support fiduciary responsibilities.
• Promote accountability and financial sustainability of the Foundation.
• Oversee strategic risk management and review risk mitigation actions.
• Ensure timely submission of statutory reports to Rand Water and other authorities.
• Attend board and committee meetings in line with the approved calendar and work plans.
• Participate actively in strategic discussions and decision‑making.

Required profile

• Recognised tertiary qualification at NQF Level 7 or equivalent in a relevant field such as non‑profit management, environment, governance & sustainability, engineering, accounting, law, audit or risk/compliance.
• Demonstrated experience in board or senior governance roles within the non‑profit or public sector.
• Strong understanding of corporate social investment, community development and ESG principles.
• Ability to provide independent, objective judgement and uphold fiduciary duties.
