Consultant – Early Childhood Development Knowledge Management

About the role

UNICEF South Africa is seeking a consultant to provide technical and related support to the Department of Basic Education’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) Directorate. The role focuses on strengthening knowledge and professional development systems within South Africa’s early learning sector.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, strengthen and maintain knowledge‑management and professional‑development support systems for the ECD sector.
• Expand and manage the ECD Information Hub as a dynamic knowledge and advocacy platform.
• Lead migration, implementation and content development for digital ECD platforms such as ECDmobi and the P.L.A.Y. online in‑service training.
• Identify, curate and share key knowledge products on early learning through play with all stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood development, social sciences or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in digital content development, knowledge management, communications or online platform management.
• South African citizenship is mandatory.
• Understanding of the South African education sector and early childhood development is desirable.

Required skills

• Strong background in information or knowledge management, digital media or ICT.
• Experience with content management systems (CMS) and website management.
• Proficiency with digital analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
