Compliance Officer

About the role

The Compliance Officer will ensure the bank fully complies with the Banks Act, related prudential regulations and Basel III frameworks. You will provide independent oversight, interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable policies, controls and risk‑management practices across the Group.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain full compliance with all provisions of the Banks Act and associated regulations.
• Interpret and translate regulatory directives from the Prudential Authority into internal frameworks, policies and standards.
• Lead the implementation of complex regulatory change initiatives and monitor ongoing adherence.
• Develop and maintain compliance risk management plans, conduct monitoring activities and produce regulatory submissions.
• Provide regulatory advice and training to internal stakeholders and support supervisory reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Risk Management or a related field.
• 5‑7 years of experience in a compliance role within banking or financial services.
• Deep expertise in the South African Banks Act, associated regulations and Basel III.
• Strong analytical ability to assess, prioritize and mitigate prudential compliance risks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with compliance monitoring tools and risk‑management software.
• Experience using regulatory reporting systems.
• Ability to draft guidelines, regulatory submissions, policies and standards.
