Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant (Johannesburg)

About the role

The finance department of a corporate advisory firm is seeking a diligent Bookkeeper/Junior Accountant to maintain accurate financial records and support the organisation's financial integrity. The role starts with an accounts‑payable focus during a probation period and progresses to full bookkeeping responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, verify and capture supplier invoices in Xero and schedule payments for the group.
• Maintain supporting documentation and perform monthly supplier statement reconciliations.
• Record all financial transactions, update the general ledger and allocate entries to the correct accounts.
• Reconcile balance‑sheet accounts such as debtors, creditors, cash and VAT.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Assist in preparing trial balances, monthly management accounts and provide financial information to management.
• Support internal and external audits and assist with payroll processing and statutory deductions.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 2‑3 years of relevant experience within a financial services environment.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• High attention to detail, strong analytical abilities and the capacity to work independently.
• Integrity, confidentiality and good time‑management skills.
