Assistant Manager - International Tax

About the role

BDO Cape Town is seeking a qualified International Tax Assistant Manager (or Manager) to join its International Tax team. You will act as a primary point of contact for multinational clients, supporting directors in delivering advisory and compliance services while contributing to business development.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the main liaison between clients and the firm, responding promptly to client needs and keeping them informed of progress.
• Manage advisory and compliance engagements under director supervision, including strategy setting, tax issue advice, documentation, and drafting opinions.
• Oversee accrual reviews, due‑diligence work, and proposal preparation, ensuring quality and adherence to budgets.
• Handle billing, cash collection, and WIP management in line with firm policies.
• Participate in tax planning, complex tax issue resolution, and risk identification.
• Support directors in client management, recruitment, appraisal, and team coaching.
• Identify business and sales opportunities, contribute to bids and proposals, and leverage marketing/PR channels.
• Develop and maintain a professional network both internally and externally.

Required profile

• Qualified professional with solid experience in international tax advisory and compliance.
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and deliver high‑quality work under supervision.
• Strong organisational skills, capable of planning staff assignments and monitoring budgets.
• Leadership potential to coach junior staff and contribute to team development.
